Celebrations Fit for a King at The Auckland Project

The Auckland Project will be celebrating the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III in style on Sunday 7 May, with events and activities for all the family to enjoy.

The Auckland Project will be throwing open the gates to Auckland Castle Gardens for the afternoon and everyone is welcome. Come along between 12noon and 4pm on Sunday 7 May for ‘The Big Lunch’, a celebratory picnic with friends and family on the Bowling Green. Guests are advised to book their free tickets in advance from The Auckland Project website, and please bring your own picnic.

Meanwhile, community groups and visitors to Weardale Railway are invited to bake for King and Country and join the ‘Great Coronation Bake Off’ competition at Stanhope Station. Local schools, businesses, clubs, societies and individuals in the community can showcase their best cakes and biscuits for the chance to win.

To mark the occasion, Weardale Railway will be operating trains between Bishop Auckland West and Stanhope station on 7 and 8 May, calling at Frosterley, Kingfisher Halt, Wolsingham and Witton le Wear.

The Auckland Project is also taking part in The Big Help Out. The charity is grateful for the support of over 300 volunteers, and will be hosting two volunteer taster events on Sunday 7 May, with the Gardens and Parks taster session from 10am – 12noon and the Spanish Gallery taster session from 1pm – 3pm.

A Volunteering Celebration Day will be held at Weardale Railway on 8 May for people to explore volunteering opportunities and speak to current volunteers about their roles.

Edward Perry, CEO of The Auckland Project, said: “Our team have pulled out all the stops to deliver a celebration fit for a King for the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III. We look forward to celebrating this momentous occasion with our visitors and the local community.”
