Sheriff’s Tower Cottage – West is ideally located just around the corner from all the other popular attractions on Market Place. Originally part of the old alms-houses, you will find clever touches amongst the sharp, modern interior which serve as reminders of this heritage. From the bedrooms, the cottage boasts views north to green fields and the countryside of County Durham. To the rear stands Auckland Tower, from where visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the whole town.

Just off the main Market Place is peaceful Silver Street, where once many silver coins passed hands in the Sheriff’s Tower as the townsfolk came to pay their taxes.
You can still see this tower from the cottage windows, reminding you of the many centuries of history which crowd around this ancient part of Bishop Auckland.
