The Auckland Project are excited to announce their first ever Summer Fest event, featuring a range of live music, theatre and outdoor cinema.
Join us at Auckland Castle for an evening with The Unthanks, the multi-award-winning folk group celebrated for their authentic blend of traditional melodies and modern sensibilities, creating a sound that is both timeless and innovative. With 14 records to date, earning them a Mercury Music Prize nomination and international acclaim along the way, they have won Mojo Magazine Folk Album of the Year twice and were the only British folk representation in The Guardian’s and Uncut’s Best Albums of the Decade (worldwide, all genres). They count amongst their admirers, artists and storytellers including Elvis Costello, Maxine Peake, Rosanne Cash, Martin Freeman, Robert Wyatt, Martin Hayes, Nick Hornby and Dawn French.
Led by Tyneside sisters Rachel and Becky Unthank, their performances are characterised by hauntingly beautiful vocals, intricate instrumentation, and a deep connection to storytelling.
Their fearless creativity and willingness to push boundaries makes each performance an unforgettable musical journey exploring at once the beauty, complexity and agony of the human experience.
