Visiting The Auckland Project
Some of our venues are under construction, but you can find out more on our venue pages. While it is possible to visit a single venue, we recommend leaving enough time to explore the whole destination, as there is so much to enjoy.
Start your visit at Auckland Tower, where you can buy your tickets, pick up a map of the site and find out more about what there is to see and do. You can find the Tower in Bishop Auckland Market Place.
Travelling to us by car
The Auckland Project is located in Bishop Auckland, County Durham, which is approximately 12 miles from Durham, 13 miles from Darlington, 25 miles from Middlesbrough and 30 miles from Newcastle-upon-Tyne. If using a sat nav, the postcode for the car park is DL14 7PG.
From the North
From the A1 motorway, take the A688 from Durham Services (J61) towards Bishop Auckland. After travelling past the Park Head Hotel, turn right at the roundabout on to Durham Road for 1.2 miles, before turning right on to Castle Chare. Drive through the Market Place and bear left on to North Bondgate. The car park is on your right.
From the South
From the A1 motorway, take the A68 (J58) to Bishop Auckland. At the roundabout, join the A6072 for approximately six miles, before turning right on to the A688. At the second roundabout, turn left onto the A689. Continue along the A689 through Bishop Auckland, then turn right on to High Bondgate, before continuing on to North Bondgate. The car park is on your left.

We operate North Bondgate car park, just five minutes’ walk from Bishop Auckland Market Place. If using a sat nav, the postcode for the car park is DL14 7PG.
Charges apply Monday to Saturday 8am–6pm (including Bank Holidays).
60p for up to two hours, 50p per hour thereafter. Open 24 hours.
Travelling by train
If you are visiting The Auckland Project by train, the nearest station is Bishop Auckland, which is about a five-minute walk from the Market Place. Here are some useful journey times to help you plan your trip or you can visit the National Rail or Trainline website for more information.
- London to Bishop Auckland: approximately 3 hr 19 min
- York to Bishop Auckland: approximately 1 hr 12 min
- Newcastle to Bishop Auckland: approximately 1 hr 4 min
- Darlington to Bishop Auckland: approximately 26 min
Travelling by bus
Bishop Auckland has regular bus connections around the region.

From the ariport
The two nearest airports are Newcastle Airport or Durham Tees Valley. Newcastle Airport is 36 miles by car from The Auckland Project, via the A1. Durham Tees Valley is approximately 19 miles away, via the A67 and A689.
If you’re travelling from overseas, you can also reach us via Leeds Bradford and Manchester Airport.
