YOUNG ARCHAEOLOGIST WINS PLACE ON CASTLE DIG Thursday, 1 August 2019

A member of our Young Archaeologists’ Club has been busy excavating another Castle after winning a national competition.

Myles Fairhurst, 10, has been part of the club, exploring the fascinating history of Bishop Auckland since December 2018.

He was recently named as one of the lucky winners of the Dig It! competition, run by the national network of Young Archaeologists’ Clubs, with the prize being a day of digging with expert archaeologists at the historic Bamburgh Castle in Northumberland.

Alongside two other competition winners, Myles enjoyed a tour of the castle, an introduction to zooarchaeology and the chance to work alongside professional archaeologists as they excavated a trench at the castle site.
