Walk This Way Tuesday, 15 November 2016
While the charity, and Auckland Castle itself, enter a new and exciting chapter, the Market Place outside continues to undergo its own transformation.
The essential road realignment works, being carried out by Durham County Council, will result in a pedestrian friendly approach to the Castle and its landmark Welcome Building and are designed to complement the award-winning regeneration of the Market Place carried out in 2011.
A safe route through the works will be maintained for pedestrians accessing Auckland Park and all forthcoming events at Auckland Castle.
Access is also being granted for the charity’s shuttle bus, which continues to run daily from North Bondgate car park to the Castle until November 27 and then in line with weekend events until December 17.
Visitors attending the Christmas Market this weekend are advised that the shuttle bus will stop at noon on Friday due to the Christmas light switch on in the Market Place but that it will run all day Saturday and Sunday. Pedestrian access to Auckland Castle will be open on all three days.
