The Northern Saints Trail - The Way of Life Friday, 5 August 2022

The Northern Saints Trails project was launched in 2021 and inspired by the North East’s historic reputation as a place of pilgrimage.
The six trails (covering over 205 miles across the region!) are based on ancient pilgrimage routes and highlight the wonderful attractions the North East has to offer.
The project is coordinated and funded by Visit County Durham through Durham County Council, in partnership and with match funding from Durham Cathedral, Diocese, Destination Management Organisations, Local Authorities, attractions, landscape partnerships, visitor accommodation providers and places to stay, eat and drink.
The Way of Life
The Way of Life is one wondrous route crossing old churches and magnificent castles.
Running from St Mary's Church in Gainford to Durham City, The Way of Life route is the perfect opportunity to explore what The Auckland Project has to offer.
Make your way past the Newton Cap Viaduct as you enter the stunning town of Bishop Auckland.
Holy places lie scattered all along this trail. Auckland Castle, where Prince Bishops once resided, is one of them.
After getting your passport stamped and enjoying 360° views of our remarkable town, you can make your way through history at Auckland Castle, Galleries and Gardens.
What better way to top off the day than to feast at Bishop's new tapas restaurant, El Castillo?
