MINING ART GALLERY PAYS TRIBUTE TO ARTWORK Wednesday, 29 August 2018
A series of special events are taking place to celebrate Miner and Child by Tom McGuinness.
From 2pm to 4pm, every Sunday in September, visitors can enjoy the much-loved artwork at Mining Art Gallery, Bishop Auckland, whilst listening to music inspired by the piece.
The composer of the instrumental track, Glenn Maltman, will also be at the gallery alongside Corinne Aspel, daughter of mining artist, Tom McGuinness, on 2, 9 and 23 September, to offer visitors insight into the music and artwork.
Miner and Child has been on display since the Mining Art Gallery opened in October 2017 and has proved extremely popular with the gallery’s 12,000 visitors.
The weekly events have been planned to celebrate the work before it leaves as part of a re-hang of the gallery. The artwork is on loan from Shipley Art Gallery in Gateshead and will return there on Monday, 1 October.
