Pasta at Auckland Castle

GETTING A TASTE FOR AUCKLAND CASTLE Thursday, 21 July 2016

It means visitors will have more opportunity to give their taste buds a treat with a plethora of home-made, bistro-style, seasonal dishes, as well as longer opening hours and the introduction of table waitress service.

Menu highlights include Hand Rolled Truffle Pasta with garlic roasted organic chicken; Smoked Haddock Scotch Egg with curry mayonnaise; and Smoked Salmon Rillette with beetroot, fennel, scratchings and home-made bread.

All of the Tea Room’s bread, ice cream, cakes, jams and chutneys are home-made and there is a strong showing of local suppliers too, including Weardale Cheese, Hodgson Fish of Hartlepool, butter, milk and cream from Acorn Dairy near Darlington, ham from Simpsons Butchers at Cockfield, eggs from Piercebridge Organics, and Durham Gin, which is used in a gin and tonic jelly on the afternoon tea menu.

The Library Tea Room, which is free to access, is now open 10.00am-4.00pm seven days a week. The lunch menu is available 12.00pm-3.00pm with prices starting at £4.95 for the homemade soup of the day, up to £7.50 for the Hand Rolled Truffle Pasta.

Extended hours will be running to coincide with Kynren, with the Library Tea Room remaining open until 6.30pm on all performance days and afternoon tea served until 5pm

Afternoon tea starts at £18 per person, and must be booked 48 hours in advance.  Prosecco and Champagne options also offered, priced at £46 or £62 per couple respectively.
