FREE BEHIND THE SCENES Tuesday, 23 May 2017
Visitors are being given the chance to go behind closed doors at Auckland Castle.
From May Bank Holiday weekend, (May 27 and 28), we will be hosting free Behind the Scenes Tours every Saturday and Sunday, as the Castle prepares for one of the most exciting chapters in its 900-year history.
Closed to the public since September 2016, the Castle has now been completely cleared to allow work to begin on a multi-million pound restoration scheme, ahead of its grand reopening.
The Behind the Scenes Tours, run by a team of specially trained volunteers, offer the chance to learn more about the heritage of this prestigious property, as well as the restoration work due to take place over the next 12 months.
Separate tours will also be taking place around the Castle’s landmark St Peter’s Chapel, which is believed to be one of the largest private chapels in Europe.
The Behind the Scenes tours of Auckland Castle will be running every Saturday and Sunday at 10.30am and 1pm, lasting for around 90 minutes, while the Chapel Tours start every 45 minutes between 10am and 4pm.
Spaces on both tours are limited but can be booked in advance by emailing [email protected] or calling 01388 743797
