Time to explore The great outdoors, steeped in history.

When you do visit us – and we hope we’re not being too presumptuous there – we heartily recommend that you take a stroll to discover the incredible grounds around The Auckland Project. We’re lucky to be surrounded not only be beautiful historical buildings, but by stunning landscapes teeming with wildlife and glimpses of the past to discover.

The Deer Park is currently open every day from 7am-9pm

How to find us

The land around Auckland Castle was particularly important to the Prince Bishops of Durham (as it still is to us, naturally), who often liked to entertain themselves and guests with hunts and scenic strolls throughout the countryside. The Deer Park itself stretches over 150 acres of gorgeous natural beauty and retains many of its original medieval elements, including fish ponds and woodland paths. It’s also home to an array of historical structures, such as the Clock Tower and Gatehouse, the Georgian Gothic Deer House, bridges, and the stone pyramid that caps an early water supply for the Castle.

If you fancy a break from the noise of modern life, we’ve got a series of suggested walks and things to look out for around our stunning grounds. Fancy a stroll?
