West Mural Tower Garden

A garden dedicated to horticulture, heritage skills and well being

West Mural Tower sits in the grounds of Auckland Castle and once served as a defensive gatehouse. In 2019, a programme of conservation work was completed to restore the Grade 1 Listed building, which sits next to six free standing pillars. The pillars once formed the supports for a  cart shed or barn, and in the future, we hope to create a garden around the two buildings which has a focus on education and outreach.

Groups will have the opportunity to get involved in activities like Willow Weaving and other heritage skills, and will have the chance to learn about horticulture around raised beds, or under the cover of the restored cart shed.
